The Town of Arden

Arden — Overview

An underground world with animal inhabitants. The community of Arden thrives due to the powers of the Brightshard, a massive shining crystal. The glow of this crystal fosters the life tree, which provides food, purifies water and shelters the townsfolk from the shadows. The sunderfolk form a secluded community with gates protecting them from monsters from the deep, dangerous caverns.

Upgrades

When the campaign starts the town only has a few useable buildings. You will soon unlock the Oracle and Tavern after the first few missions. At Hero level 4 you will unlock the the Bug Pens which allows you to upgrade certain buildings by donating gold and a variety of Trinkets. At higher levels you will also unlock the Workshop, Clothier, and Smithy.

All players must agree on the upgrade before the selection is complete. Upgrades you do not choose will still be available to choose in the future. Some buildings can be upgraded multiple times, with the highest being tier IV. When upgraded, each building will provide a unique set of rewards as listed below.

Buildings

Bridge

At the bridge, you can check a characters affinity towards you. Each time you choose to talk to a townsfolk, you will gain affinity with them. When you have filled an entire heart on their affinity track, you will unlock a special conversation marked with a gift icon that gives you rewards.

Tier 1:

• Each Hero gains 2 Positive and 2 Negative Fate Cards

Bug Pens

This building will display a variety of gold and Trinkets that the party can pool their resources to donate and all gain the benefits of the upgrade. Once all components have been donated a selection of buildings to upgrade will be presented and the party must agree on one choice before proceeding. This building cannot be upgraded. Below is the cost of each upgrade:

Clother

Here you can change the appearance of your hero by selecting a style. Equipping a style is free, and you will be able to unlock new styles by upgrading other buildings. This building cannot be upgraded.

Gates

Shows available missions.

Tier 1:

• Rename the Gates

• Add a new shop, Lavawalk Imports, to the Market's rotation

• Unlock conversations in town with Mudmouth the Ogre

Tier 2:

• Add a new shop, Fungal Finds, to the Market's rotation

• Each Hero starts each Mission with Haste 1

Tier 3:

• Opening a Chest grants each Hero an additional 50 gold

• Each Monster starts each Mission with Exposed 1

• Each Hero gains Affinity with Anisah, Batu, and Wurmsbait

Market

The market is a location with shops where you can purchase Trinkets with gold. You can unlock new shops and increase the rarity of Trinkets sold in each shop by upgrades at the Bug Pens. Some shop inventory items only become available after reaching certain milestones during the campaign.

Tier 1:

• Add a new shop, Adventuring Accoutrement, to the Market

• Rename the Market

Tier 2:

• Unlock more stock at the Market shop Adventuring Accoutrement

• Monsters have a higher chance to drop Loot

Tier 3:

• Unlock more stock at the Market shop Adventuring Accountrement

• All equipment has increased sale value

• Each Hero gains Affinity with Evelyn, Zihao and Zuri

Oracle

Between each mission each player can choose to pay 35 gold to receive a new Fate card out of a selection of 3 face down options.

Tier 1:

• Obtained automatically once unlocked, no direct benefits included

Tier 2:

• Rename the Oracle

• Each Hero gains 2 Positive, 2 Negative, and 6 Neutral Fate Cards

• Each Hero may equip 1 more or 1 less Neutral Fate Card

Tier 3:

• Each hero gains 1 Positive, 2 Negative, and 2 Neutral Fate Cards

• Each Hero may equip 1 more or 1 less Positive Fate Card

• Each Hero may equip 1 more or 1 less Negative Fate Card

Post Office

The post office lets you send gift and gold to your fellow heroes. Select the hero, then items or gold you'd like to send them. Type a message if you'd like, then hit send.

Tier 1:

• The first Hero to use the Post Office after completing each Mission gains 25 gold

• Unlock conversations in town with Hermea the Mailbird

Tier 2:

• The MVP of each Mission receives an additional 50 gold

• Permanently increase conversation count limit by 1

Smithy

The smithy is a place where you can purchase weapons. There is only one copy of each weapon so once a weapon is purchased it will no longer be available in the Smithy until the owner of the weapon sells it.

Owner / Shopkeeper: Zihao

Tier 1:

• Obtained automatically once unlocked

• Receive 4 Rare Weapons distributed across the party

Tier 2:

• Each Monster replaces a Positive +1 Fate Card with a Neutral +0 Fate Card in their Fate Deck

• Unlock conversations with Zihao to rename purchased weapons

Tier 3:

• Legendary Weapons are purchasable at the Smithy

• Add 4 more Styles to the Clothier's collection

Tier 4:

• Artifact Weapons are purchasable at the Smithy

• Each Hero may equip 1 additional Skill Card

Tavern

Meals can be bought at the tavern and are only active for the next mission. The menu of available meals will change between every Mission.

Tier 1:

• Obtained automatically once unlocked, no direct benefits included

Tier 2:

• Add 7 more Meals to the Tavern's rotating menu

• Name a set of Meals amd add them to the Tavern's rotating menu

Tier 3:

• Add 4 more Meals to the Tavern's rotating menu

• Rename the Tavern

Tier 4:

• Add 3 more Meals to the Tavern's rotating menu

• Each Hero gains Affinity with Anisah, Batu, Evelyn, Wurmsbait, Zihao, and Zuri

Temple

Dwelling of the Grove Tender and where you are taken when your Hero levels up.

Tier 1:

• Each Hero gains Affinity with Amaia, Evelyn, and Zihao

• Each Hero gains 4 Neutral Fate Cards

Tier 2:

• Unlock conversations in town with Fyodor the Scavenger Goat

• Add 4 more Styles to the Clothier's collection

Tier 3:

• Permanently increase each Hero's Health by 5

• Each Hero gains Affinity with their Family

• Add 4 more Styles to the Clothier's collection

Workshop

At the workshop, you can combine multiple lower tier Trinkets of the same type into rarer and more powerful versions.

• Epic Trinkets are craftable at the Workshop

• Add 6 more Styles to the Clothier's collection

Tier 3:

• Name a new set of Epic trinkets and add them to the Sundrous Staples Market shop

• Artifact Trinkets are craftable at the Workshop

• Each Monster starts each Mission with Slowed 1
